Bodyboarding

Bodyboarding at Aquatics happens with the surfing at the Southport Beach. All students in one group wear the same brightly coloured rash top so they can be easily identified. On the walk to Southport the instructor will talk to the students about the conditions and how to look at the ocean to identify potential dangers.

Once at Southport the students are given a safety talk at the start of every session. They then go into the water and start bodyboarding. The instructors sometimes stay in relatively shallow water so they can watch all the students and offer advice on how individuals can improve their technique. On other occasions instructors will join the students and bodyboard with them to demonstrate by example.

Bodyboarding is a good activity for keen bodyboarders and also for those students who are not very confident in the sea. Bodyboarders need to be able to push themselves off the bottom of the sea bed so they keep their feet on the sand except when they are riding a wave. Nervous students can choose to stay in shallow water.
