Kayaking

Kayaking at Port Noarlunga is taught on the Onkaparinga river.  The sheltered situation means that it is possible to paddle whatever the weather.  Kayaking starts from the shed by the river so most sessions start with the students and instructor walking over to the river.

In the kayak shed students are supplied with with boots, paddle and a personal floatation device. The Aquatic Centre has five different types of kayaks (boats) to allow students of different sizes and abilities to be appropriately catered for. Before going on the water students are always given a safety talk.

After the safety talk it is time for students to get on the water and go for a paddle. Kayaking sessions teach the students new skills where they can learn to control their kayaks. If possible the skills are practised by playing suitable games. There is the opportunity for students who are at an advanced level to venture on longer paddles.
