Marine Ecology

Marine Ecology students normally spend a day at Port Noarlunga.

The day is usually made up of three activities. The weather and tides dictate how the day progesses. The instructors tailor the activities to fit in with the topics being undertaken by the students. The main activity is a snorkel and the pictures below give an indication of the marine life that can be seen. All of the photographs on this page were taken by an instructor at Port Noarlunga over a six month period.

In addition to snorkelling students normally walk on the reef and examine the intertidal environment at close proximity. Some groups fill out transect charts to look in detail at the differences between life forms on the ocean side of the reef as compared to the shore side. The third activity can be a walk through the dunes and down to the river to study the plants or a discussion of the area and how the marine environment has been impacted by human interaction.
