Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)

Stand up paddle boarding is a relatively new sport that has become very popular with many different people. SUPing is taught either in the sheltered waters of Port Noarlunga beach inside the reef or at the Onkaparinga river. Students learn about rips, tides, winds and how to use the Internationally recognised emergency hand signal.

Students always wear a personal flotation device and shoes in the river for safety, with an attached leg rope for easily returning back to their board. Students first learn paddling on their stomach, knees and then standing positions on the beach, before entering the water, they also learn how to launch their boards correctly and safely.

Instructors will provide feedback on how to improve stance/paddling. As students improve, games will be introduced to help achieve greater water confidence. Whether it's staying on the knees until confident or challenging themselves to stand up when ready, this activity is enjoyed by most students. SUPing is also wonderful for seeing the marine life from an elevated position, especially near the reef on a calm and clear day.
