Surfing

Surfing at Aquatics is done at Southport, a well known surf beach where there is almost always a surf break. All the students in one group wear the same brightly coloured rash top so they can easily be identified. The walk to Southport means the students' muscles are warmed up before they start surfing

When the students reach Southport they are given a safety talk. After this students are talked through how to ride a surfboard safely. They practise paddling out and getting to their feet with the surfboard on the beach. Then everyone heads into the water to start surfing

While the students are surfing the instructors help them to improve their technique. The instructors are also constantly monitoring the students and the conditions of the ocean. If the swell changes or rips develop students are moved to a safer area.
